Tokyo – w/John

I apologize for the complete lack of posts (again…) the last week has been really busy. John visited me in Japan, and we were busy going many places. We hit several of the places that I visited with Myron again, however, there is always something new. Especially now that it is spring in Japan. Here are some photos of Tokyo.

So first up, after picking John up from Tokyo Eki, we made our way to Asakusa:

I wanted to find out where the Chinese Embassy was that night, so we busted over to Roppongi, where we went to the Tokyo Tower.

Next day we woke up and ate at a nearby bakery…

Headed to Roppongi so I could apply for a tourist Visa to China

 Headed to Akihabara afterwards…

Climbed on top of a building (hey… the door at the top o’ the stairwell was unlocked, ok?)

Went back down and walked around for a while…

The Japanese sure have the most interesting arcades

Anyway, we then headed to a flea market in Ueno. This was a really interesting place with a lot of people.

At this point we had been walking around for a long time, so we returned to Asakusa.

We got something to eat at a soba-ya, and it was really good. I think I bugged John by saying “ugh… I’m so full” at least 100 times over the next 2 hours but he was a good sport about it. We just sort of wandered looking at the glowing lamps for a while, before returning, tired, to the hostel.

One really cool thing we did was spend more time at the fish market than I did w/Myron. We were in sort of a hurry last time, but this time John and I were able to see more of it.  It actually deserves a post of it’s own, so I will finish with these two pictures of guys hacking tuna with… SWORDS!! HAHAHA THE COOLEST JOB IN THE WORLD!

  1. Dear Tim,
I agree, the fish market is the best! Do they put that fish into sushi? I’d like mine cooked, though…I still love the painting you did for me!

  2. Dang! cutting tuna with a sword is cool. do they slice it like you would with a knife, or do they chop it like with an ax?

  3. Wow! That tuna has amazing color!

  4. Tim,

I especially like the first picture and the backlighting.

  5. Hoho, comments! Thanks guys,
Mom – yeah lots and lots of sushi… I agree cooked tastes better, but as Matt said, the colors they can get w/sushi are amazing.

Jacobmarian – heh I was hoping they would hack it like with an ax, but it turns out they are more gentle and slice it.

Matt – yeah the colors are amazing. It was the same way at the sushi restaurant. I don’t really care for the taste (actually, it doesn’t have strong taste, it just has a soft and wet texture) but the colors are amazing.

Uncle Ted – Thanks, the sun was right behind the building and it looked cool… it took me about 5 shots to get an exposure I could work with though
