Brain hurt

uuurgh my brain is about to explode. I’m trying to find the equations for finding the pressure at any arbitrary point in an infrasonic array with both primary and secondary summers and… porous tubes. And I’m trying to do it in a memory effective and fast way. This means breaking the matrixes into smaller matrixes, and the hard part is doing this without using the symbolic math toolbox, which slows everything down. It is the hardest thing I’ve ever done in Matlab, I think.

So, in the next 15 minutes before I have to go to the bible study with the Kawa-uchi group, I will write down some cool things that happened in the last couple days and some of the funny things that have randomly been running through my head.

 Cool thing #1

I got to give names to people in my English class. Naming people is a strange thing. Esspecially considering that, if they go to an English speaking society they will be using the name you gave them. That is weird. And they were so eager. The first 2 were relatively straight forward.

1 guy, named Akira, wanted “Steve.” So, he got Steve. Straight forward, I didn’t really help out that much.

A chinese girl wanted a name that ended with -ina. So, I gave her Christina, and she was happy with that. I wasn’t really sure what else was out there.

But, the last one was toootally cool. First off, this guy has a name with one of the coolest meanings ever. It was like ”Motaru” or “Motaro” or something. It means “walk on water.” ???? How cool is that!! 1st, that’s what Jesus did. Second, it just kicks @$$. Gosh. Wow. So, I couldn’t believe he would want a new name, but I obliged, (THIS IS COOL KEEP READING) and wrote up a bunch of male names on the chalk board.

He didn’t like any of them.

I was sort of running out of names to pick from, so I started delving into the corners of my brain. And, remembered a certain amazing character from one of the best books ever.  So, I wrote up the name “Ransom” on the chalk board.

“That’s the one I want.”

?? He didn’t even know the meaning. So, I told him the meaning, and he kept the name. But he now owns 2 of the coolest names in existence. “Walk on water” and “Ransom.” Man, I hope this is prophetic. So, now I have 3 new kids with English  names – Steve, Christina, and Ransom.

Ok, let’s see. What’s next. Random funny things that have been meandering through my head.

1) Excerpt from the webcomic “Cntrl – Alt -Delete”

Guy sitting on a couch next to his girlfriend: “OH NO! I think I’m paralyzed from the waist down! I can’t feel my legs. See???” [Stabs his leg with a fork.]

Girlfriend: “No, I think your legs actually just fell asleep.”

Guy: “Hmmm. I didn’t think of that. Yeah, your right. Now I’m feeling pins and needs.”

Guy: “Pins and needls… AND A FORK!?! AAAAAAUGH PINS AND NEEDLS AND A FORK!!!!”

2) Excerpt from Futerama. Scene: Bender the [coolest] robot [in the world] is in a bending factory bending I-beams. He sees Angeline the female robot bending hangers.

Bender: “Uh… hey Angeline!”

Angeline: “Yes?”

Bender: “What’cha doin’ tonight?”

Angeline: “Same as I always do”

Bender: “Oh yeah? Well, what’s that?”

Angeline: “Jack squat”

Bender: [nervous laughter] “Me too!… boy, we sure got a lot in common, don’t we!”

3) Paula’s theology class with Dr. I can’t remember. Setting: Paula is always arguing with this professor cause he’s a nut. Paula doesn’t argue much, which means he’s really a nut. But he thinks he’s a genius. Everyone else just sort of goes with the flow. The students are getting back one of their tests.

Professor: “You all did terrible on the test. Nobody got higher than a C. Well… except for one student, who some how managed to get a 93…”

[HAAA HA HA]

  1. Suweeeet about John’s prelims. Huzzah!

It’s funny to think about other people thinking about your funny stories. Be really glad you didn’t have that professor. He was very full of self.

I still campaign for Ransom as a first or middle name for one of our babies, someday. But you can use it too.

Good luck with your equation(s). I may be looking for a new camera soon, so if you have any words of advice please let me know.

  2. congrats John!
